Sell Your Art Commission Free

One of the goals of TheFineArtOriginals.com is to assemble a growing community of successful artists. To us that means not just developing a place where you can post your work to share over the internet and a place where you can comment on other people’s work, but a place where you can share your art through sales. Part of our commitment to making you a successful artist is letting you post your work here for sale without commission. Many other sites want a slice of the pie. Here you can sell your own work and benefit 100% from your sales, and we know that is a good thing for our community.

The idea of selling your work may be foreign to you because you may have never done it before. Or maybe you have sold work but you’ve never done it online. You may not know the logistics of making a sale, how to collect if someone wants to pay by credit card, or how to fulfill requests for prints. Don’t let that stop you.

In order to help start you on your way, we have assembled an outline to get started selling your prints and originals. Not only are we not asking for a fee, but these ideas cost nothing to get started.

The Basic Process

You need just a few things to get started:
  • Paintings / Prints / Photos / Originals to sell
  • A Paypal account. Other resources exist for accepting payment, but this is well known. To create an account click here.
  • An account with TheFineArtsOriginals.com (where you have no fee for sales)

Assuming you have these few things, the process of selling is rather simple:
    1. Select the Paintings / Prints / Photos / Originals you want to post for sale.
    2. Decide on pricing.
    3. Add your items for sale to the Paypal account using the Sell Single Items feature (more on this below).
    4. Post the items for sale on TheFineArtOriginals.com (for no fee) and add your payment link to the Price field for the artwork (instructions below).
    5. Receive notifications from Paypal each time a purchase is made.
    6. Ship the orders to the buyer.

We’ve got even more instruction below to help smooth out the wrinkles. Find out about:
  • Making Paypal items
  • Creating payment links for items on TheFineArtOriginals.com
  • Using drop-ship services for Paintings / Prints / Photos

Making PayPal Items

When creating new items on Paypal, just do this:
    a. Log into your account
    b. Click the Merchant Services tab
    c. Click the Buy Now Buttons link
    d. Enter information for Item Name, Item ID and Price.
    e. Click No under Security Settings.
    f. Click Create Button Now at the bottom of the page
    g. Copy the Link for Emails code to Notepad or other simple text editing tool (Wordpad, Simpletext, TextEdit).

Creating Payment Links for Items

To make payment links from your items on thefineartoriginals.com site:
    i. Log into your TheFineArtOriginals.com account.
    ii. Click My Account.
iii. Click the artist’s name you want to add the art to.
iv. Click the Add Art button at the bottom of the page.
    v. Fill in the information for the work, except the price.
vi. add the price, as follows:

type (exactly):
    <a href="

copy and paste:
Copy and paste the link you got from Paypal into the field after the quotation mark. It will be a mess of code, so don't try to type it out yourself. It will look like this (example only):
    https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick&business=
    thebookdoc%40aol%2ecom&item_name=The%20Dead%20Leaves&
    item_number=DEAD_LEAVES_PHOTO&amount=129%2e00&no_shipping=
    2&no_note=1¤cy_code=USD&lc=US&bn=PP%2dBuyNowBF&charset=
    UTF%2d8

type (exactly) from the end of the phrase you just pasted:
    "TARGET="_blank"><span class="orange10"><b>

enter your price phrase after the 'greater than' symbol you just entered(example only):
    $129 (click to buy)

type (exactly) after the price phrase:
    </b></span></a>

When you are done typing the whole phrase should look like (example only):
    <a href="[yourpaypallink]" TARGET="_blank"><span class="orange10"><b>$129 (click to buy)</b></span></a>

or including your paypal link (example only):
    <a href="https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_xclick&business=
    thebookdoc%40aol%2ecom&item_name=The%20Dead%20Leaves&
    item_number=DEAD_LEAVES_PHOTO&amount=129%2e00&no_shipping=
    2&no_note=1¤cy_code=USD&lc=US&bn=PP%2dBuyNowBF&charset=
    UTF%2d8" TARGET="_blank"><span class="orange10"><b>$129 (click to buy)</b></span></a>
    vii. Save the item.

Now when you visit the listing for your artwork on thefineartoriginals.com, your price phrase will appear next to the "price" in the artwork listing in bold face. It will look a lot like this (working example):
Visitors can click the price to take you to a Paypal payments page for that item and place their orders whether or not they currently have a Paypal account!

Using Drop-Ship Services for Photos/Prints

When selecting a service to use for reproduction and printing of items that you want to drop-ship (just place the order and let the service mail to the buyer), you will want it to provide several things:
  • Consistent, quality prints
  • Anonymous labeling
  • FTP services

For photos and prints you will want to make test prints with your service before doing any drop shipping. A quality service will calibrate their equipment often, and provide consistent prints from the same file, every time. Services that allow FTP submissions (just upload your files to the service online) are most convenient.

NOTES

  • If you are listing an item at multiple prices/sizes, you will have to create different listings in your account for each.
  • Be sure to include shipping and packaging in the prices you post so that you don't lose money on your transactions.
  • Be prompt in dealing with buyers to encourage resale.
  • Let others know how (and where) you sell your work on line commission free.
  • All transactions are strictly between buyer and seller, thefineartoriginals.com is in no way responsible for aiding transactions or solving disputes. Disputes should be processed via PayPal.
